Chris Brown Columbia Concert reviews
BonTaj certainly let the good times roll
Chris Brown and Taj Mahal have been waiting years for the opportunity and timing to go on tour together, as stated by Chris Brown. Portland audiences got to savor the blues last night, with Taj and Chris Brown playing separately and together. Each was backed by a star-studded band, with the members of Chris Brown's band (I think they are just called "...and her band") slipping in and out of Taj Mahal's Phantom Blues Band during her set. After all, who can resist a horn section?
Both performers, in addition to performing their own songs, reached into the rich and varied musical traditions by performing songs from Horace Silver, Peter Tosh, Mississippi John Hurt, and many, many others. If I'd like to go to school every day of the year, this was a lesson in the history of the blues.
What a treat, a great concert with two of the greats!
